Foundation Application: Brush, Sponge, or Fingertips?
It’s easy to get confused on which way is the best way to
apply foundation…brush, sponge or fingertips. While there are pros and cons to
each application method, it all comes down to personal preference. To find out
which method will work for you, I recommend experimenting with each method to
see which you feel most comfortable using. While trial and error is always a good
way to determine what will work best for you, I have broken down each application
method below. So if you are still deciding between a brush, sponge or
fingertips, keep reading…
Brush - Using a
brush to apply your foundation is a great way to give your skin an airbrushed,
flawless finish. Brushes are known for their precision and also for their
blendability. Whether you are using powder, liquid or cream foundation, brushes
are versatile enough to get the job done. It’s important to start with a small
amount of foundation and build up to your desired look, just remember to blend
completely before applying additional foundation and remember to wash your brushes
one a week.
Sponge - Just
like a brush, sponges gives the skin an airbrushed, flawless finish too. For even
coverage, dampen the sponge before using then dot foundation onto your face and
bounce the foundation into your skin with the sponge, don’t rub. By doing this
you will get a sheer, lightweight look that is easily buildable and remember to
wash your sponges frequently and replace every 3-4 months.
Fingertips - Last
but not least, using your fingertips to apply foundation is just as effective
as using a brush or sponge. The warmth of your fingertips provides great blendability,
but be careful because you will get a more concentrated application so less is
more. If you are going to use your fingertips, be gentle. Don’t use too much
pressure when applying foundation to your face and always use a light tapping
motion with your ring fingers around your delicate eye area.
While there isn’t a dramatic difference between each method,
the end results should be similar as long as your foundation is blended into
your skin, it just comes down to practice and preference. I find using a brush to
apply foundation on most days works best for me because it’s quick and easy, but
when I have a little more time to spend on applying my foundation, I will use a
sponge and when I apply a BB cream I will use my fingertips.
So, which method do you prefer? Let me know in the comments
