Tips for Healthy Eating in the Sky and at Airports
Summer is here and it’s time to travel the world! But, this means
taking one or more flights and spending a lot of time cooped up on airplanes and
in airports as well. When it comes to food, the default option is to be at the
mercy of the airline and airport, but with a bit of advance preparation, you
can avoid this and eat healthy while you are en-route. Here are some suggestions
to make your travel healthier:
Bring an Empty Water
Bottle – You can refill it after you pass security. Find a soda dispenser
at the food court and pour yourself some cold water. Also, chilled water
fountains are usually found at the entrance to restrooms.
Pack Your Own Sandwiches
– PB&J sandwiches are easy to make, but if you prefer a deli meat sandwich,
make sure to avoid ingredients with a high-water content such as tomatoes so
your bread doesn’t get soggy.
Pack Fruit – Fruits
such as apples, pears, nectarines, peaches, plums or bananas are great to pack
because they require no container. But, if you prefer veggies instead of fruit,
you can pack small snack size bags of your favorite veggies such as cherry
tomatoes or cut up carrots and celery.
Pack Trail Mix –
Trail mix is a good snack to have on hand especially when you are in between
flights and there is no time to stop and grab something at the airport.
It's usually better to bring your own food, but if you don't
have a chance to pack your own food, ask around the airport for healthy
options. Some airport eateries offer salads, yogurt, fresh fruit and veggies and
trail mix.
I hope this has been helpful and until next time, stay
happy, healthy, beautiful and safe travels this summer!
